I've been against deregulation since it started many years ago. Is air travel more safe and reliable? NO! Within 2 years of industry de-reg American Air was tagged with a HUGE fine for cutting corners on maintaining their planes. Routes have been changed to a cheaper hub model and there's less competition.

Banking deregulation was a disaster.

Phone service wasn't helped by de-reg either. The entire concept is a joke. Deregulation of the phone industry led to the Worldcom disaster.

Lack of adequate regs in the fishing industry is leading to depletion of the world's species. Lack of regulation of commercial fishing has led to the total extinction of 4 out of the 5 species of great lakes "chubs."

Atlantic cod populations have been depleted by over 90% and the stocks haven't begun to recover after 10 years of the crash. In addition, thousands of jobs have been lost in the industry.

Deregulation of energy led to the public being overcharged while the big players, like Enron, went broke anyway.

All I can think of to do about it is complain to Congress the next time they try another hair-brained deregulation idea.
