The cloned meat issue was exc. poll topic. Do I want to eat the meat of cloned animals? I had to stop and think. It was good to ponder the ethical aspects + the medical/scientific questions.

The reports are stating that the cloned meats will not hit the meat counters for about another 5 years. Our government is stating that this meat will be ok for consumption. How do they know that the meat will be ok for consumption? Have they had volunteers that have been eating this meat for several years to know that the meat will not cause any medical reactions? Will there be any medical conditions caused from long term consumption of this meat? If and when it does hit the meat counters I think that the meat should be clearly labeled that the meat is from cloaned animals so consumers will be able to make a choice in their purchase. The question is will people be willing to buy this meat?

The main question that comes to mind is "why" Have we exhausted the natural way? I personally wouldn't eat cloned meat, it's bad enough to think about the processes that the meat goes thru with all the growth hormones, doctored feed, all the injections for disease, etc. The government can't even decide if eggs are good for us or bad. It goes back and forth with several things that they tell us is leading to cancer. Even down to M&M's, so why would I want to believe them on the safety of cloned meat.

M&Ms? Say it ain't so!

I remember when mad cow disease was first identified. People were told "Don't worry, it's only an animal disease." Later it turned out that it's a horrible scourge that does indeed affect humans.

It seems they won't have to label cloned meat, so there's no way we can choose not to use it.
