My brother Ron was a Vietnam Veteran. May 2006 he attended a pow wow and was welcomed home by several native veterans. He told them he had never been welcomed home before, that he had only been spit on and called baby killer.Ron passed sept. 2006.A few months ago i was at a store and saw a man with a hat on that said Vietnam Veteran something in the back of my head said i wonder if he has ever been welcomed home. I said aggh dont bother him my mind said go ahead i said ok turned around he was gone then im like you dumb ass why didnt you say something. Next thing i know he walks by me again im telling myself get your ass up now and say something. I approach this man and tell him my brother was a vietnam vet. and wasnt welcomed home until last year i stook out my hand and said welcome home brother. He shook my hand and said i never was welcomed home until this year. RIGHT NOW. This sent chill bumps all over me and my tears welled up as he walked away. This has left me wondering how many more men have not been welcomed home from war. If our paths never pass wher i may personally welcome you home.At least i have reached a few of you here WELCOME HOME to each and every one of you. THANK YOU

I think this is a great idea! I'm sure you're right that many of the Vietnam vets have never been warmly welcomed home. I know one vet who told me that his "welcome" consisted of being spat at.

It's a small gesture that will do some real good. A whole generation of vets still need healing. They were badly misused.

As a high school student with an uncle in Vietnam, I was uncertain about the future.
We had a President telling us to fight for our country, just as we have today, and young people fighting and dying, just as in our present day conflict.
Why is everyone so quick to welcome these soldiers home, when MY soldiers were so reviled for doing the same thing?
I'm like you, sweetheart.
WELCOME HOME, VIETNAM VETERANS!
You paid your dues, just like the guys today. We love you all.
If you know a Vietnam Vet, walk up to him or her and shake their hand. They did their job with honor; it's about time we said thank you.
To everyone who reads our website, speak out and let us know how you feel.
Vets, send us a message, too. We want to hear from you.
Great Christmas, everyone!
Happy New Year!
Godspeed, and watch the drinking and driving.
I want you here to read us in 2008!

Good idea. This is something everyone can do - if you see someone in uniform who might be a vet, of if you know of someone who is a vet - whether from Viet Nam, the Gulf War or Iraq, make them feel welcome and appreciated by just shaking their hand and letting them know. Even if the war itself was stupid and ill-conceived (as I believe), the men and women serving there still deserve our appreciation, our support and our gratitude. And they deserve to be brought home alive -- NOW.
